Think of all 130 or so football schools on a number line. There is no mark where "destination school" suddenly grants permanent advantages. That's not how it works at all. And schools can, and do, rise and fall on that continuum.

Just ask Nebraska. Miami. Michigan. Those schools used to power "Perennial Powers". That was the term thrown around back in the day. But they are power players no more.

Watch their next hiring search. It'll be a little less bold than the last one. That's inertia.






No one has insinuated that Lane will go to Miami, Nebraska, Michigan, or Tennessee.

They said he might jump to one of the current destination jobs from Ole Miss if he's offered.
