Kinda almost makes you feel bad for Albert Means. He ended up at Memphis, went undrafted, and never made an NFL roster.
I think it ended up being clear that the kid was mostly hype. Can't believe he ended up being sold for that much.

There was a great deal of sketchiness surrounding CFB in general and Bama in particular those days.

I remember reading an online article about Lang's court testimony, where he said he talked about selling Means' LOI with coaches from Arky and UTee, but said "none of them were straight business like Alabama" - except that the Alabama-based reporter "accidentally" left out the word "business" in the quote (Arkansas and Tennessee media reported it verbatim).

Also, either UA compliance personnel were completely clueless, or they flat out lied to Mal Moore when he was courting Fran to take over in late 2000. Even up until the Infractions Committee released their report, Mal was saying they would only get a slap on the wrist.

Once DuBose got the job the inmates started to run the asylum. He had no control over anything, didn't know how to control them and they didn't respect him enough to listen to him if he had even tried.
