I am planning to go to the UAB game this weekend with a few friends and was wondering if the bars in DT Athens open up early on game day. We will be pulling in about 9am and need to know if we need to pick-up some beer or if some bars open early this Saturday? Think we are just going to find a bar and the walk over to the stadium closer to game time. Thanks in advance.

Bars typically open at 9/10am on gameday if it's a 12/3:30 kickoff.

The walk back up that hill to town after the game is a bitch!

Not a Dawg but go every other year. Suggestion, if anyone traveling with you has an ADA sticker and legally uses it… park at the handicap parking at the library. Between downtown and the stadium. Saves that long walk back up that hill to downtown.

By the time you get to the main library, you've already scaled the hill. It's level from that point across the two quads to Broad St.

Edit- and once you get into that car at the library and drive into DT right after the game, where is it you intend to park at that point?

My goodness…. That’s what I’m saying perhaps not the right way….He can arrive early, park at the library and not have to move the car all day until they are ready to leave. They can walk through the two quads on even soil to the bars and save $25-30 and not park downtown on all that mess and have to walk 2 miles (exaggeration but it’s a walk) to the stadium on Lumpkin. I was just trying to help someone who hasn’t been to Athens from a visitor point of view. I’ve been going to Athens since I was 12. I’m 63. My apologies Hairy Dawg.

Sorry had to take the grandson to practice. I'm in the Holiday Inn express. So we are in walking distance to DT. Or at least that's what my friend said. I'm bringing a sleeping bag. Doing a floor sleep.
