So they held that note up until the snap. Is that legal? I’ve never seen a band playing up until that point. They usually stop when the players get set. What’s the ruling on that?

I don't recall what moment you are talking about but if your own team has the ball and your band or stadium wants to make noise, and vuck up your own snap count and whatnot, you are allowed to. It's when the other team has the ball where the rules kick in, I think. That's my understanding on the matter.

I think we usually hold a note up until the offense breaks the huddle and comes set. I don’t think we’ve ever kept playing until the actual snap

It was us with the ball. Clemson band. They held the note literally until the ball was moving. A few times.

I don't think anything has changed in this department since I marched. The Redcoats generally also hold defensive tunes until the snap, though it is at the drum major/director's discretion exactly how close they're willing to go (if you go past, it can even result in a penalty on the field). I don't have a problem with it.

Ok you know more than me, thanks.
Maybe they were close to a mic and made it more noticeable but I had never heard it being that loud just before the snap before. Thanks

Yup, sometimes the mics are really close to the bands and sometimes not. I'm biased, so I always prefer to hear them. But it was/is definitely a goal of the band to affect the game and over the years, I've definitely seen the Redcoats assist in creating some false starts. I'll bet the kids were amped after sitting out 2020, as well.

The audio for the game was jacked up. I could barely hear the commentary for most of the game on ABC because the band was drowning them out. I thought it was a broadcast issue.
Didn’t miss hearing Herbstreit enough to care.

Finally getting a chance to watch the replay and it seems like the mic was next to the Clemson band bc every time the Redcoats were playing it sounded like that weren’t even in the stadium.

Sounds about right
I brought it up Bc it was so loud on tc, but then I had a buddy texting from the stadium saying how long they were playing into the snap count..
