agree with you. It’s really about depth more than soft. The potential for injury in this league is far greater than other leagues and strong guys just get beat up. It’s really about having deep, deep bench that can plug and play NFL level talent.

Until you are there (and you aren’t) you won’t compete in this league. I don’t think A&M is quite there yet either. But we’re closer than you are.

Trying be respectful here. Texas will get there but it’s gonna take a few years.

I understand what you are saying.. and that is something that may or may not be true. I think Texas is deeper this year than we have been in some time. We aren’t Alabama, but no one is.. Pick a position group that you think Texas lacks depth, and let’s compare that group to what A&M has.. perhaps that will make me understand better.

Thanks for the civil response. And for the record, A&M didn’t believe it either when we first came to the SEC. So I am not surprised by your skepticism.

I would say depth primarily is around the O line and the D line positions. There is a rest why Texas has had trouble filling depth here, it’s because all of these athletes go to the SEC.

Now I’m NOT saying you won’t have lock down positions 1 deep. But watch A&Ms offensive line this year, the entire line is a a reload. But they will likely reload like it’s no problem, they will be inexperienced, but we have very big, very physical linemen even at the 2’s and 3’s.

This is why Bama (and LSU and Georgia and Florida) can just roll another QB out there. He’s already been playing with 2s that are better than most teams 1s on defense.

That’s depth. You’ll get there. But to win in this league that’s the level of depth you must have.

And, through no fault of their own, Texas and OU don’t have this level of depth at the line positions because, frankly they didn’t need it. The Big12 is way more of a skill position oriented league and a spread offense league. Such a league is about speed and skill positions. That’s what you recruited to.

The SEC teams are perfectly fine taking 9 minutes to run the ball down the field and run 4 yards each play because they absolutely know they can beat you physically. Not saying that would happen against Texas, but it’s not a league built on speed. It’s a league built on physical dominance.

OU recently started to become more physical. They are closer. Y’all are still 4 years away I would bet.
