I don’t think it matters why the difference exists; instead, is it a useful metric? Depends on what it represents. I know this has probably been studied, but would a student be better off at a school with more academically gifted students?

They are forced to accept by state law, same requirements for OM

As a freshman how many classes were in a format where your peers aided your education?
Id say research, degrees(post and pre), and depth of professors matter more for educational standards
