I'm not looking into this any further than what I already have, but in short, businesses and organizations are free to look for new and better opportunities- that's what OU and Teaxs did. Accusing the media, with some applicable 1stAM protections, of tortious interference is something that would require serious case law study, but my guess is that they would be legally unable to separate the line between journalism and business in this interference.

Again, I have no idea what they're getting at- I have virtually no experience with contract law outside of 1L (UBC/Sales being inapplicable here). I'm curious, but this all seems like expensive, very expensive, virtue signaling

The cease and desist rather than lawsuit and request for some sort of injunction on ESPN is saying something. I don’t think the conference has the hand they claim and I think the conference members do not want a lawsuit because they’re actively shopping right now. You don’t want to be involved in a legal matter with the very people you’re inevitably going to negotiate with for television carriage.
