He also brought up good points last night on his bi-weekly show where he talked about how Texas and Oklahoma coming to the SEC could be the final nail in the coffin for the rest of major college football. Because it'll no longer be the P5. The Big 12 will wilt away, the Pac 12 will get the scraps, and only the Big Ten and SEC will remain as viable conferences competing for championships on a consistent basis.

The median fan that cares about college football is slowly moving south and east as the rest of the country becomes more ambivalent towards it (think of the average Pac12 fan). Even the average B1G fan isn’t the same as it used to be. In essence you have Ohio State and everyone else. Eventually I could see two superleagues in college football that don’t even play each other.

He is right. But I don’t think the Big 10 is a factor. They have Ohio St and that’s it. Maybe Michigan gets back one day but even that won’t give the Big 10 the firepower to keep up with the SEC. The PAC 12 can pick out of the Big 12 enough to make that league stronger. The ACC will be the next biggest Conference to the SEC if they can pick up Penn St and get ND to join full time. But there is just not enough big teams like a ND, Texas, OU, Penn St out there the Big 10 can pick up to give it more pop than the other 3 leagues.

The SEC has to do what’s best for the SEC, and getting Texas and OU positions them as the premiers athletic conference going forward. The ACC will still have some options and so will the big 10. The big 12 and pac 12 will have to come up with some sort of merger. It would be a grave mistake for the SEC to sit stagnant with the way college athletics is trending.
It’s not the game I grew up watching, and I don’t love it but it’s where we are. The NCAA is on the way out the door.
