I think OU and Texas hope - expect? - that when they finalize the SEC offer that many of the other member schools in the Big-12 will see the writing on the wall and jump ship for the Pac-12, Big Ten, or ACC resulting in the necessary votes to dissolve the conference.

We will see if that is an option for any other Big 12 program.

Problem is most of those 8 remaining programs aren't attractive enough to land in one of those other conferences. The Big 12 programs that had other options left back in 2011.

The Big 12 as a conference will be the new AAC, with a slightly more prestigious name. They'll poach some mid-majors like Tulsa and Houston and continue as a G5 conference. Which means UT and OU will very likely be on the hook for massive buyouts.
