Typical Bama dumbness. "Recognized" titles are those titles the NCAA lists in their "NCAA OFFICIAL RECORDS BOOK". It's a very thick record book, you know, the kind made of paper!?? It's a printed copy of all their football record-keeping. All their "recognized" national champions are listed online, too, if you're smart enough to look it up properly.

But, since the Gumps aren't smart enough, here.... LINK

If you Bama fans knew anything, you'd know what is meant by "NCAA recognized." Stupid Gumps.

There is no official record book of FBS national championships by the NCAA. If there is, I'd like to see it.

What you do see from time to time are lists that appear on the NCAA website. But that stuff is just done by different NCAA authors/editors and is certainly not anything close to being an "official" list. They'll list just about anything anyone claims half the time. Suddenly even BCS computers are listed for teams as selectors.

You linked to a wiki page after claiming the NCAA. Not sure why.

I've heard the term "NCAA recognized" for the past 15 years online. It's always done by people who don't have a clue what role the NCAA has in FBS college football, which is absolutely none. They keep game stats and records is about it.

If you want to talk about what the NCAA recognizes in college football, you better start looking towards FCS and lower divisions.

In reality, Alabama has 1 claim it shouldn't have and that is 1941. All the other claims fit directly to their era and the way national champions were determined in that area.

Now, let this dumbass gump tell you what is legit.

Pre 1936 you have the math poll/Rose Bowl era. You'll see claims of 4 and 5 teams or more every year in this era. Basically all of them done retroactive before 1930ish. Someone put out a math poll in 1930ish, and then Knute Rockne ask them to go back in time so he could claim retro ones.

In 1936 the Poll Era begins with the AP. It's a bit biased for many years, but after 1935 it is no longer valid to claim a math poll. This is why Alabama's 1941 claim isn't legit, despite the math poll selector. The coaches poll comes about 15 years later, and those are legit as well.

From 1936 until the start of the BCS, you can claim any of those 2 polls and it's legit.

Then you have BCS era, and now we have the playoff era. AKA USC using the AP poll to claim 2004 is a bullshite claim.

Using this method, Alabama loses 1 title. What about Georgia?

But sure, let's pretend the NCAA has a method of "recognizing" national titles.
