Alabama Men and Women Ranked in the Top-20 in Pre-NCAAs Track & Field Rating Index

The Crimson Tide men are 10th and the women are 18th coming out of last week’s NCAA East Preliminary

The Alabama men's and women's track and field teams are both ranked in the top-20 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI), with the men in 10th and the women in 18th.

The latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index considers only marks by student-athletes who are slated to compete at next week's NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.

The Crimson Tide men have eight individuals and one relay set to compete at the national championships, including Eliud Kipsang who is seeded No. 1 in the 1,500 meters, Bobby Colantonio, Jr., who is ranked second in the hammer throw, and Isaac Odugbesan, who is third in the shot put. Overall, the men tallied 160.23 in this week's national TFRI.

The Alabama women are sending five women in six individual events as well as two relays. Mercy Chelangat leads the way, set to race in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. She is seeded third in the 5,000 meters heading into Eugene. The UA women tallied 102.26 points in this week's national TFRI.

This year's NCAA Championships will be held June 8-11 at Hayward Field, with the men competing on Wednesday and Friday and the women on Thursday and Saturday.
