Alabama Swimming & Diving’s Kensey McMahon Earns Spot on U.S. World Championships Team

It was definitely a busy weekend for Alabama swimmer Kensey McMahon. After finishing 15th in the 10-kilometer race in Saturday's FINA Marathon Swim World Series in Setúbal, Portugal, the All-American distance ace was named to Team USA's roster for the 2022 FINA World Championships. McMahon will swim the 25-kilometer race in Budapest, Hungary in late June.

McMahon qualified via a points-based system based off results from April's U.S. Open Water National Championships and Saturday's FINA Marathon Swim World Series Portugal, where she finished 15th overall and fourth among Americans with a time of 2:06:02.

In April, McMahon earned a top-10 finish in the 10-kilometer open water race at the 2022 United States Open Water Championships at Lynn Hall Beach Park in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., taking eighth overall and fifth among Americans.

With her finish at the U.S. Open Water Championships, McMahon earned a place on the U.S. Open Water National Team after previously earning a place on the U.S. Swimming National Team in the summer of 2019.

McMahon is the second Alabama swimmer to earn a place on Team USA heading into the 2022 World Championships. 2020 Olympian and 2021 World Champion Rhyan White punched her ticket to Budapest in the 200-meter backstroke at the USA Swimming International Team Trials in April.
