Alabama Volleyball Announces 2022 Schedule

The schedule features a season-opening home tournament, nine home SEC matches

Alabama volleyball has announced its 2022 schedule, as the Crimson Tide enters its first season under new head coach Rashinda Reed.

The slate features 30 matches, including a home tournament to kick off the season and SEC matchups in Foster Auditorium against Auburn, Missouri, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Tennessee. Season tickets for the 2022 season are available or purchase at RollTide.com/tickets or by calling 205-348-BAMA.

Alabama welcomes McNeese, UTSA and Southern Miss to Tuscaloosa for the Crimson Tide Invitational Aug. 26-27 to open the season. The Tide will spend the next three weeks of preseason on the road at tournaments hosted by Houston, Ball State and TCU before opening Southeastern Conference play Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Gainesville, Fla., against the Florida Gators. The home conference slate begins that weekend with a pair of dates against Auburn in Foster Auditorium Sept. 24-25.

After three straight road matches at Kentucky (Oct. 1) and Ole Miss (Oct. 7-8), Alabama returns home to face Missouri (Oct. 12) and LSU (Oct. 19) on back-to-back Wednesdays. The Tide closes out the month of October with a pair of road dates at Georgia (Oct. 22-23). After a quick midweek road swing at Texas A&M (Nov.2), Alabama then hosts South Carolina (Nov. 11-12) for two at home. The final road trip of the regular season takes the Tide to Fayetteville, Ark., for two at Arkansas (Nov. 19-20) before returning to Foster Auditorium the week of Thanksgiving to play Tennessee Wednesday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 25.

Game dates and times are subject to change. Television information will be finalized closer to the start of the season.

Planinsek Falls In Second Round of NCAA Singles Championships

The loss caps an impressive rookie campaign for Filip Planinsek, which included a team-leading 22 singles wins and SEC Freshman of the Year honors

Alabama's Filip Planinsek concluded his season Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Singles Championships, falling 6-2, 6-3 to Ohio State's Matej Vocel at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.

Despite an even start, 13th-ranked Vocel captured momentum in the opening set to take a 6-2 victory in round one. That momentum would continue as the Ohio State graduate student jumped out to an early lead in the second set. Planinsek, ranked 25th, made a run towards the end of the second set, securing three-straight games, but would come up short in a 6-3 decision.
