Ray leaving really set us back. Then the U of A killed us with Curry over Coach Bowden. We were so close to really moving back into elite status.

Also, we're talking about all these teams that are all outside of our Top 35 teams of all time..........and they all finished in the Top 15 in the AP
Almost all of these teams would be 90% of programs Top 10 teams of all-time, if not Top 5.

It has to be 1999.
That's the only SEC Champion between 1992 and 2009.
We also beat Auburn.
Beat Florida twice, once at their house, and whipped their arse in the SECCG. This was peak Spurrier/Florida era.
Shaun Alexander was a star.
We did not beat Tennessee.
And had an upset loss to La Tech.
A lot of these other teams mentioned lost to Auburn and didn't win the SEC. Huge demerits for me, compared to 1999.

Jeff Dunn was our starting QB, tore his knee up and Gary Hollingsworth stepped in and we never skipped a beat.
I think Hollingsworth was better. Really showed Curry's weaknesses at evaluating talent. Also, Billy Ray had transferred to Duke and Spurrier made him look like a world beater-he was probably better than Dunn as well.

La Tech was a fluky loss. I was at Legion Field for that game and there were 5 turnovers or something ridiculous like that. It was just a feeling all throughout that game like we were snakebit. Shaun Alexander fumbled twice I think and he rarely did that.
Shaun got a high ankle sprain either prior or during that UT game. I think had 1 or 2 things just gone right in those 2 games-we could have been undefeated.
And of course, that stupid extra point miss in the Orange Bowl was ridiculous.
