Backtracking on Emory Jones a bit.

Highlight reel
Obviously these don't show some of the struggles he had during the year, but I think I've seen enough to know that he has the throws necessary to keep the defense honest and also hurt teams with his legs.
I think something I overlooked (probably groaning because Trask was on fire and was pulled out so Emory could get some worthless snaps) is that he actually has very good vision as a ball carrier.
We may have a sneaky good offense this season, especially now that Emory is getting the entire attention of the staff.

Thank God pass the ammo. I was in the dubious camp last year but I agree with Straws that Emory will be better than most realize...my main complaint last year was that he threw without much touch on the ball...but he could spin it. He has a slightly stronger arm than Trask and has been kept away from prying eyes at practices...Mullen will have him ready to beat some teams...8-4 predictions are hogwash and Box's dire prediction of losing to Bama by 30 is comical. I will be ready to serve up cold dead crow meat.

I know Mullen is the QB whisperer and all, but if he’s that good, why wasn’t he heavily sought after like the other QBs in that class? Hell, we barely had Mullen as a head coach at the time in December and Jones committed the same month.

Finch...you seem to forget that Trask was not recruited by any team with a pulse...Houston Baptist? Emory was more heavily recruited and it doesnt matter the stars and ratings if the staff & Mullen see the potential. You my friend have your wires crossed.

We had fricking retards out their (McElwain/Nussmeir) recruiting God knows who. They’re the only ones with a smooth brain who would’ve taken the chance on a high school backup. We got lucky with Trask.
There were all but maybe 2-3 teams looking at Emory during his senior season. He didn’t visit Florida until about 2 weeks after Mullen got here. He was committed to OSU at the time probably because it was his only offer besides Oregon. He took a visit on 12/15/2017 and decommitted from OSU and committed to us 5 days later.

Ohio State is a pretty good QB school, man.

The guy is from Lagrange, GA. If your only offers are Oregon and Ohio State, where are you gonna go?
You’d jump on 85 to Atlanta and merge onto 75 to Columbus, OH.
Y’all got me all wrong though. I’m glad we’re finally starting a Mullen recruited QB. I can’t wait to see what he does.

It's gonna be pretty scary, Mullen with Florida athletes running what he ran at Mississippi State is actually a really good thing.
Looking over our way-too-early Depth Chart, too, there's a ton of experience, although I have to admit I still think 2022 is the year. Maybe not a Playoff, but really close.
Copeland, Shorter, Whittemore, Hendo -- only one starter is an underclassmen.
Only one starter on the OL is an underclassman.
Pierce (SR), Davis (SR), Lingard, Wright, Bowman, whew.
We're not that great at WR but the running back room is absolutely loaded. TEs should be better this year, too. I think Emory opens up the offense a lot more than people realize.

let me put it another way, mississippi state wasn't looking at emory while mullen was still there. he was literally one of the few QBs left on the table when mullen was hired. we had never heard of him until then.

I don't think Mullen ever had a 4-star QB at Mississippi State.
People seriously forget how bad MSST is lol.

Yeah, but they weren’t even looking at him.

Dak was sought after by LSU as a tight end lol Mullen made him 2× first team all sec
Hell just made Trask 2nd team all sec. Idk I trust all that time preparing he'll be good to go
Richardson, Del Rio, Evers all end up moving up the rankings. Just saying. If theres any position he can develop its QB

Trask was a Heisman finalist.
Evers just finished 3rd at the Elite 11.
I think Mullen is going to have Jones ready, and we're going to have a hell of a QB room in the next few years.

Luckily they said he's in line for a bump I dont expect much of one tho
Julian Humphrey was just the fastest man at the opening also. Should get him a bump. Not to mention he has all the traits you look for in a lockdown corner

Straws your forgetting about Kitna I think he may end up the best QB of the bunch.
Posted on 7/5/21 at 2:58 pm to AlbinoGator
I don't think he will be the best, I think that'll be Richardson, but he could easily overcome a few of the QBs coming in/already here (Carlos Del Rio).
Kitna is a very solid player, and someone may transfer but he'll work out just fine no matter when he steps in.

Why do I have the feeling we’re very QB heavy on the roster? Where’s the WRs at? Where’s our 4/5* WRs?
Posted on 7/5/21 at 5:36 pm to finchmeister08
In the NFL, Finch.
We've had what, 8 WRs drafted in the past few years?
We'll be fine there, but the thing about this offense is that the QB is the key to it all. Make no bones about it: Despite Mullen being dealt a different hand with Trask, we are not a pass heavy team.
Franks threw 322 passes in 13 games in 2018. About 25 a game.
Trask threw 301 completions in 12 games.
437 passes, 36 passes a game.
The point is: Mullen doesn't want to pass 36 times a game to win, he wants to pass a lot less, and so those guys really just have to be good enough to win one on one in his original concept.
Trask allowed us to literally pass every single down, but we won't see that for another decade.

I’m pretty excited to see him. I can’t understand why so many doubt him. Mullen starts upper class men at QB and it’s well known. This kid has learned under one of the best developers in the game and it’s insanely ridiculous to assume he will fail. Kid has a rocket arm, runs well, and knows the offense at this point. Emory is going to end up a first round pick. Book it. With his arm and wheels NFL teams will want him.

And I stand by that. Nothing I’ve read or heard this off-season has changed my mind.
