Sounds good in a vacuum, but the bigger issue is:

the BCS, and the subsequent expanded playoffs, have killed the bowls.
As a kid I was ecstatic when LSU would make the Sugar or Orange Bowls. Meant we had a great season.
Now, nobody gives a shite, unless you make the playoffs.

FCS model would probably be the best overall answer, and just drop the bowls. 24 teams in, means maybe 30 +/- have something to play for in the last week of the season.
24 fanbases have something to be fixated about in the postseason.

There would be runs from "lower seeds"; you know 2019 Alabama would go a couple rounds, easily. UGA could, too. That bitching about the "weak 4th seed" we currently get, would be replaced by excitement if you're in the next group down, and get matched up with that weak seed.

Most of the complaints seem to focus on who is worthy overall; but in reality there will be lots of upsets over the course of the playoffs.
