I think there’s a trend of the SEC valuing anyone who can throw 95+ over guys who can actually throw strikes and get guys out. Our lineup looks confused when they face a guy who consistently throws strikes and doesn’t gift us base runners.

This all day long. It's been my complaint about Mississippi State all season. Tons of arm talent, but very few pitchers. We don't have any Peyton Plumlee's or Denver McQuary types on this squad that just locate and compete without overwhelming stuff.

Tennessee was a good case of this a couple years ago. I think in one game they brought in relievers back to back who both threw 100. Everyone raved about their talent but against disciplined batters, they had to throw strikes and they couldn’t locate pitches. It was free pass or a meatball.

That’s probably preferable to a guy that’s painting 88 if you’re running a farm team but to win big in college baseball you need guys that get people out, period.

I agree. See Doug Nikhazy's performance against Arizona.
