I am not going to look at those years but I would find it practically impossible for the SEC to only have 1 team to qualify in a 12 team format

The SEC was down in 16, just about every team not named Alabama lost 4 or 5 games.

8-4 Auburn went to the Sugar Bowl.

In 2015, the 2nd-highest ranked SEC team in the CFP final poll was Ole Miss at 12. With the highest six CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS being in, that would only leave the following at large bids:

12-1 Iowa
11-1 Ohio State
10-2 Notre Dame
10-2 Florida State
11-2 North Carolina
10-2 TCU

In 2016, the 2nd-highest rated SEC team was Auburn at 14.

The at large bids would have been:

11-1 Ohio State (remember Penn State won the Big Ten)
10-2 Michigan
10-3 Wisconsin
10-3 Colorado
9-3 USC
9-3 Florida State/9-3 Oklahoma State
