There are shitty Republican areas and shitty Democrat areas. For the Republicans, it's any economically depressed rural area. For the Democrats, it's always a blighted big city (Detroit, Cleveland, Fresno, Philadelphia, Newark, et cetera)

Personally I have no interest in living somewhere where people vote 80-20. Those are almost always going to be backwards, resentful areas. I like a bit of a mix. I see no fault in wanting to uphold your principles and reward a place that implements policies you agree with by bringing your talent there. I can understand leaving a place because the local officials have run the area into the ground, of course. Life is short- do what's best for you and yours (selfish, perhaps, but pick up the Fountainhead if you wish to debate selfishness w/ me).
However, if you relocate to a new area just for the politics there, that probably won't end well. I'm just being honest with you, man. You seem like a young guy (to me, at least). Don't let some shithead liberals be the reason for your move to an obscure location that really isn't the best fit for you.
My advice is this: think of areas you like first. List them. Check cost of living, public school districts, real estate value, and recreational activities in the area. Narrow down the list. Then, your last step should be to look at how the people there vote. Use that method to make your decision.

Nashville, TN (Davidson co) is a blue county and most consider it quite the opposite of your description.
One example of many.
OPs best bet is to avoid most metropolitan cities and stick with living at least semi rural.
