You laugh. But Tua never made it through a season healthy as a starter.
Coker didn't start wire to wire, but he was the starter most of the season. And I believe he was undefeated as the starter. We lost to Ole Miss, I believe he came in that game off the bench and we mounted a decent come back but it wasn't enough. The team rallied around him.
Tua didn't do that.
I'll leave the stats darlings to the Texas Techs of the world. Trophies matter.

But when it comes to the head, it's not Tua. And when it comes to winning National Championships, you need a guy who makes good decisions and doesn't chase stats/trophies.
To me, things like knowing when to get rid of the ball should be a minimum, yet in the years Tua was there, nobody could teach him how to do it. Nobody could teach him how to not take sacks or try to extend plays and take what the defense gave him. It cost him football games and it cost him his health.
