It was never unreasonable to suggest relationships were hurting recruiting. Especially when the ‘22 recruits largely talked about needing to build relationships with the staff during the summer and fall visits. But then the season unfolds, results are in, coaches are fired, and so on.

You also can’t paint the whole class with a broad brush. Not every recruitment was about relationships. Some were about opportunity. Some NIL. Some about their friends, draft picks, success on the field, talented rooms, and so on.

Most recruits had a combination of those things. Folks that want to say relationships don’t matter or that it’s all that matters or reference a single recruitment as proof are lying or trolling. Sometimes they’re doing both

All that to say — just use some common sense and you’ll figure out that a whole host of things were detrimental to our success on the trail in ‘22.

This is a great point. Some of the challenges that Harsin has faced are self inflicted. This has made that hill much harder to climb, but it's up to him to figure it out now.
