Nope. It’s because Texas is losing. It has nothing to with the best Aggie year ever, but still no championship.

I know this ignorant wishcasting makes you feel better at night, but both of the schools can't help but look at each other. They are 90 miles from each other and boosters and donors frequent the same circles of Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, etc.

Relative strength in one team impacts in-state recruiting for the other for sure. Herman's 2021 class was shaping up to be barely top 20 and 2022 was looking abysmal.

All that being said, Herman got bounced partly for not keeping up with in state programs but also for being an abrasive buffoon and a consistent 3 loss coach.
