He gets a bad reputation for what was actually a decent run at usc given the severity of the ncaa shitstorm they were under. USC got hit harder than Alabama did back in the dark days before Saban Dude massively overachieved year 2 and created impossible expectations for year 3 when they had no depth at all

It’s USC and the PAC 12. Every advantage they could have they do have. They were only down 10 scholarships his 3rd year and he did poor enough to be left on the tarmac. That would never happen to Saban, Dabo, or Urban. Those guys are the barometer. That’s who you have to beat.

Well, that's complete bullshite. Due to attrition and losing 30 scholarships over 3 years, he was down over 20 scholarships in his third year. Over 30 by year 4.

Scholarship limit is normally 85

In 2012 USC was limited to 75.

14 of those guys were former walk ons given scholarships.

The others included a kicker punter and long snapper Kiffin signed in his initial class to shore up those positions because of the sanctions.

Realistically that preseason #1 team during the height of Oregon and Stanford in the Pac 12 had 58 scholarship players.

They had multiple games that season where they traveled around 56 scholarship players counting the walk-ons and special teamers due to injuries
