re: You are hiring a coach in 2020, what are they key characteristics you want?

1 Should have experience working in highly successful P5 programs.

2. Can be a coordinator or even occasionally a position coach if he really knows his X's and O's.

3. Must know the existing recruiting lanes which means having a good relationship with high school coaches.

4. Be willing to open up new recruiting lanes

5. Have the personality that assistants want to stick around rather than take anything to get out.

6. Must be really familiar with current pop culture to relate to what the current young people are interested in.

7. Needs to be a good speaker and "schmoozer" when dealing with the boosters.


8. Have a definitive offensive and defensive philosophy.

9. Understand the high importance of getting the best QB you can and never stop recruiting that position hard.

10. Be willing to work the transfer portal and have a dedicated crew looking for players to poach.

11. Don't be afraid to use JUCO's to fill spots.
