Yeah there's a facet of TAMU fans who want to act like Sumlin was the wrong hire all along, and revel in his post-A&M struggles. I don't agree with those types. Kevin Sumlin was absolutely the right hire at the time for thr conference switch, and brought swagger/confidence/whatever you want to call it to a program that otherwise could easily have gotten in over its head QUICKLY coming into the SEC. Sherman wouldn't have done that. A guy of Jimbo's caliber wasn't coming at that time. So it had to be someone like Sumlin who had an irrational confidence that the program frankly fed off for a few years.
I'd already made peace with him being gone at that point, I think. The State loss in Starkville when we were ranked #4 is what broke me RE: him coaching us. At that point, I knew he had nothing left to give. UCLA was just icing on that cake.

He was the right hire at the time...but the extension with no buyout after 2013 was absolutely the wrong move.
