That loss to LSU in 2001 was awful, but it was also more than 6 years ago. Too many Tennessee fans cling to it as evidence of Fulmer's flaws as a coach.

And try as I might, I can't hate LSU for costing us a shot at the national title. LSU fans have always been classy to me, and one of my closest friends and all of his family are LSU fans. I probably like Auburn more, but the Fighting Tigers are okay in my book.

I would just like for Tennessee to win another title so the 2001 championship game could be erased. It wasn't so bad because we lost, but because we lost to a team who we were more talented than and who we had already beaten. It was a strange time though, as Texas did the exact same thing by losing to a team, who they had already beaten during the regular season, in their conference championship to piss away a shot at the national title. But no one in Texas cares any more because they got their revenge a few years later.

Of course, even though the stage and the stakes were not as high, it was plenty sweet getting a measure of revenge by knocking off LSU in Baton Rouge at night.
