The SEC is significantly more competitive now than, for example, the seventies.
From 1971-79, Alabama won the SEC every year except 1976. They only lost 3 SEC games in nine years. Only 4 wins...two over Tennessee and two over LSU...were by less than 10 points.
From 2011-2019, four different teams have won the SEC. Alabama has lost 8 conference games (AU, aTm, LSU, UM) and had 9 wins over six different teams (Ark, aTm, UGA, UT, MSU, and LSU) decided by less than 10 points.

And 1980 thru 2010?
