So why is it that teams like USC lose to teams like Oregon State or Stanford? Aren't USC players so good that they can just walk out on the field and win? Obviously the answer is "no." College talent without great coaching will get you beat a lot because there are plenty of talented, and well-coached teams out there. Most college players who are talented are pretty raw when they come in and it takes good coaching to develop them. Players don't just automatically become good, especially at QB, O-line, D-Backs, etc.

Now of course it is easier to be a "great" coach when you have lots of talent. But part of being a great coach is getting great talent and developing it. If you are a good game coach, but can't recruit, then you aren't a great coach. It's the total package.

I find it odd that people say that LSU is so talented it doesn't matter if Miles can coach. But they never say the same thing about Meyer or Carroll who have teams with as much or more talent. Nobody said or say it about Saban either. But then Miles has done more with Saban's players than Saban did. And he was the one who developed the talent, not Saban over the last 3 years.
