From what I have heard, he felt he didnt get enough credit for 2010, everyone praised Gus. He lost the team and coaches from his pride and distrust. Everything collapsed from there

Cam Newton took an 8-5 type team and ran the table. Any coach with mental acuity above Joe Biden could have won with that team and that guy.

Gus is the better coach, no question.

Another former Auburn coach who had great success there and never returned to the big time was Terry Bowden. Bowden was 47-17-1 at Auburn and almost won a national title his first year.

He also did the broadcast thing and didn't return to coaching for a decade at North Alabama. Then he went to Akron and sucked horribly.

Thst is true with any team. How would Bama have done without Henry or Tua or LSU without Burrow? Maybe not 8 games, but one play makes a difference every year.
