Zamir White Vision

I typically watch our games on TV and do not come here for the game threads because....well...old and can't concentrate on game while typing.
I went through the game thread Sunday and saw a lot of comments about how Zamir White has no vision and comments about his not being very good because of his vision. I went back through the game and watched his carries and just didn't understand the criticism.
He had no holes to run through in the first half. Blame it on the OLine, or give Arkansas credit for being up for the game...whatever. But if you watch, he continually spotted open holes and cut into them in the second half. I was impressed by his cuts, and speed going through the holes and changing directions. I saw the #1 RB recruit that we were hoping for.
Am I missing something? He looked great. I am thinking it was fans who were just frustrated with our early performance and sought to place the blame on White, which, to me, was misguided.

Likely the fog of war. It's easy to to see what you want to see and miss important details in the middle of the game.

White had a great game. Our line was having a hard time in the first half creating holes.
Our fanbase is a little spoiled with having incredible offensive lines the past few years.

5.5 ypc against a stacked box is really good. It may not be elite but it's nothing to bitch about. He'll break some big ones this year.

Yes. 90% of this board only knows football from when they played in middle school or on Madden. He sees the field just fine. The first half he had no holes to run through and the second half when it opened up you could see his cuts and his vision were just fine.

Zamir runs like an Alabama back, not a Georgia back.
Is what it is.
Is what it is.

His vision and anticipation looked really good to me.
As has been already stated, the O-Line did nothing to help early, but in the second half he had several jump cuts and changes of direction that looked really good all from seeing both the hole and the second level of the D.

I got excited that he had some mini go pro attached to his helmet and I could see what he sees when I read this thread title. Totally disappointing.

I said his vision looked suspect last season. Looked pretty good yesterday though.

The jump cut Zeus made on his TD run is not one he could have made last year. It was, in a word, filthy.
I think he trusts his knees now.

Absolutely. he showed more speed than I thought he had, and he changed direction incredibly well. I was surprised at his finesse moves. I was under the impression he would be a straight bulldozer type runner, but he did a couple of stutter step moves and bounced laterally a couple of times.

Just fast forward to the second half.

The second half says it all. He shows speed, power, agility and vision. I am very excited about what he can do.

Not missing anything, not only does he have good vision, he is a power back.

Situation reminds me of the Garrison Hearst debate, it took him a while to show off his big play ability. He got tracked down from behind once and the accusations started.
He ended up with several huge plays in his career, a truly stunning run for the 49ers.
I hope the Zeus gets what he needs to get loose and show off the skills that make him elite.

I agree with you to some extent, but Arkansas was selling out on the run game and our lack of success in the passing game let them stack the box. When Bennet came in and had some success, it opened up the run game. I also think our OL wore them down.
