I mean, one of his middling Washington State team almost beat SEC champion Auburn and he just lost by a field goal to Alabama while at Texas Tech.

Obviously if there are turnovers then there will be problems, but isn't that the same in any offense? Like if a running team fumbles the ball then an SEC team can usually capitalize, so I don't see what makes the Air Raid any different?

This. Points are points and Leach always has his team score a lot of them. Now, the defense, we’ll see what Arnett does.

The difference is time of possession and how much easier it is to turn the ball over with a freshman or inexperienced qb. With a good qb it is almost unstoppable until the red zone where it becomes much more difficult to create space.

He can compete but that was a Shula lead Alabama team not really comparable to a saban lead Alabama.
