I'm not sure going 15 of 30 for 173 yards qualifies as "shredding." He was semi-effective as a runner, but even then he wasn't exceptional (7 rushes, 44 yards).

Doesn't change my point. The defense was the gift that just kept giving, all season. When is scoring over 40 points not enough? When you look at the scoreboard at the end of the game and it ain't enough. I want to see a better team on both sides of the LOS Saturday and so does most everyone else.

Yep. It's mainly the defensive performance that has to be much improved over last season, but very costly avoidable offensive turnovers also contributed to last year's losses to LSU and AU.

Well, see, the point you're making here:
quote:

The defense was the gift that just kept giving, all season.
wasn't what you actually said in your post. What you said was "Freshman QB Bo Nix shredded our defense," which wasn't accurate. In fact, Bo Nix statistically had a worse game against us than his average for the year.

The defense wasn't perfect against Auburn by any stretch, but one could argue they played well enough to win. We held them to 354 total yards, their fifth-lowest total in the regular season.

By the same token, the offense wasn't outstanding, but again, one could argue they did enough to win the game. We put 515 yards of offense on them, more than anyone else they played all year. We scored five offensive touchdowns against them -- again, more than anyone else did all year.

What happened against Auburn is the same kind of crap that always seems to happen in Jordan-Hare: weird bounces, fluke plays, strange calls.

Having said all that ... I agree we should be a better defensive team in 2020. I'm hopeful that will be the case.
