Kevin Norwood

Great pick. Always dependable.

But, another from the 2011 season who doesn't get a ton of credit was Nick Gentry.

Kind of got lost in the shuffle in Saban's first class. But, he had some big plays in 2011 coming in to spell Chapman on passing downs. Finished as top DL in sacks and QB hurries, tied with Chapman in tackles, and just behind Square in TFL. Although undersized by a Saban DL standard, he added a big third down pass rush threat and disruptive force from up the middlle, allowing more opportunity for Upshaw and Hightower.

Again, his #s don't jump off the page. But, he was a huge addition to the chemistry of that D and options it presented. For that, he is "most undervalued" IMO.

Saban had once commented on his impact and intelligence for the game saying he was good coach material. Seems to have been right. Nick followed Sunseri to UTk as a grad assistant before getting to Jax St and coaching OLBs with a NCG appearance. Now, he is coaching OLBs at UAB and doing pretty well (in two years the Blazer D has had 92 total sacks and 217 TFL; ranking top 10 in total D each year). Not a bad start, maybe he'll be back in Crimson on the sidelines one day.
