Alabama and Tennessee are historical rivals.

Exactly. We play every year and, up until the last decade and some change, the games have mostly been close and hard fought. But that shouldn't matter. Most media pundits will tell you that Ohio State-Michigan is the greatest rivalry in the history of college football, yet the Wolverines have only beaten the Buckeyes twice since they hired Jim Tressel back in 2001.

Comparing the Alabama Tennessee series to a league that cancels football is an interesting move.

Since 2007 Average Margin of Alabama "Rivals":

LSU: 8.3
Auburn: 12.7
Tennessee: 25.3

And of Georgia: 8.3

(although Alabama has played them less than the above teams due to the ridiculous SEC Schedule they force upon the SEC for their fake Tennessee rivalry)

FYI that is not an average margin of Alabama defeats, these are how close these games are win or lose. Which in Tennessees case is 0 times.

So if 25.3 Average Margin in a game consitutes a rivalry, lets see how many SEC teams can claim to be Alabamas rival.

Arkansas: 26
Mississippi State: 20.6
Ole Miss: 20.5
Texas A&M(since 2012): 18.4

WOW! So the Alabama Tennessee rivarlry is comparable to Arkansas eh? No wonder the SEC moved Arkansas for Alabamas last game! It fits Alabamas criteria for a relevant rivalry,.
