Four-star LB Jaron Willis turns focus towards six schools

quote:

THE SITUATION: Six schools are still in play for Jaron Willis. The four-star linebacker out of Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County has all but eliminated around two dozen schools, and is now down to Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Ole Miss.

The 6-foot-2, 215 pound athlete has played rush end, linebacker and safety the last two seasons, and his versatility, athleticism and potential has some ACC and SEC schools in pursuit with a decision likely coming by early fall.

quote:

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "The communication I have with these six schools was big in my top five," said Willis. "This is really my final six. I like the coaches, I like how they see me fitting into their defense, and I think it will be one of these schools when I commit.

"I want to commit early in the season. I am planning to take visits in the summer, then commit in August or September.

"I have one official visit set up right now, and that is to Georgia Tech June 4. I am talking with all the other schools about official visits, but no dates have been set yet. I am working on getting those set soon.

"Georgia Tech is a school in my home state, and I love the city. I have been up in Atlanta a lot, and I like where Georgia Tech is. I like what they are doing, they show me a lot of love, and coach Collins knows defensive backs, and he wants me to play safety. I can tell he really wants me.

"The only schools I have visited so far are Florida and Florida State. I was able to walk around each campus earlier this year, so I have seen a little bit, but I want to go back and take official visits to both schools.

"Florida State was my favorite school growing up. I visited when I was little, so I have been around there before, so I know about Florida State. Coach Marve, coach Woodson and coach Norvell are always in contact, and I have great relationships with them. I like all three, and I really like the fit at linebacker in their defense.

"Coach Robinson is my guy at Florida. He has shown me a lot of love, we have talked about what all I could do in football and with academics there, so I like the total fit at Florida. I got to walk around the campus, I saw the stadium, and everything looked great.

"Arkansas and Ole Miss are two other SEC schools I like. I have always liked the SEC football, and how they play, so both of these schools stand out for that. I also like how coach Pittman recruits me for Arkansas. He calls me his son, he makes me feel important, and having the head coach recruit me like he does means a lot. He has always been 100% with me too.

"Coach Partridge is my guy at Ole Miss. I like him, his energy and how he recruits me. He and Ole Miss see me as a true hybrid guy in their defense, and I like that a lot. That is what I played in high school this past season, so I like how they want to use me. I have learned about the education part at Ole Miss, and I like that too.

"Kentucky is one of my top schools too. The reason is that they show me a lot of love, and they have shown me what a great opportunity I have to come in a start. Coach Sumrall is my guy, and I like him a lot. He has shown me what they can do for me education wise as well.

"The official visits will be important to me. I told my mom that I will not commit to a school until I can take my official visits. I have walked around a couple of schools, and I have learned about all five schools on the list, but I need to take visits.

"Other than the visits, and how I feel at the schools, where I can get on the field early is important to me too. I am looking for the best opportunity to play, so that is big in my decision."

RIVALS REACTION: This is really wide open. Willis made this list based on communication, and opportunity, so who will impress most when they get him on campus? That is what it may come down to. He grew up a big Florida State fan, so he has that love for the Seminoles down deep, but he is not letting that play into his decision. This will be one to track closely once he is out taking visits, because that is where this battle is likely to be decided.

Belleville (Mich.) class of 2022 safety Myles Rowser announced his verbal commitment to Arkansas on Sunday.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound four-star chooses the Razorbacks over 27 other scholarship offers. A one-time Michigan commit, Rowser had narrowed his schools to Arkansas, Michigan State, Alabama and Kentucky in advance of this commitment. Notre Dame, Arizona State, Purdue, Virginia, Arizona, Boston College, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska and others were also part of his offer list.

Defensive backs coach Sam Carter and head coach Sam Pittman were a big part of this commitment. Rowser noted how they were in frequent contact, not just with him, but with his family also.

"The realness of staff and the overall recruitment [is why I chose them]," Rowser said. "They were the best fit out of all the schools."

New Director of Player Personnel Butler Benton is a Detroit native who was another familiar face to Rowser. He has an official visit set with Arkansas for June 4th-6th.

The staff has told Rowser that they see him as an immediate impact player. His versatility is a big reason for that. He showed that recently by being a top performer at the Rising Stars Midnight Madness showcase, which allowed him to demonstrate his man to man skills which are not always as apparent on his highlight tape.

His high school coaches note his physicality, tackling ability, and football I.Q. among his chief assets.

"I can play corner, nickel, free safety, anywhere they need me," he said.

Academics also played a part in this decision.

"The team holds a 3.4 GPA and work hard on and off field," Rowser previously told 247 director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong. "I see myself in the SEC then the NFL. The coaches and staff a see the same. It’s an amazing opportunity and a great fit overall."

Rowser is the eighth commitment for Arkansas in their 2022 recruiting class. He is their first from Michigan or the Midwest. He hopes to recruit fellow top prospects to Fayetteville with him, and not only players from his home state.

"Hawg calls to real dawgs (sic) only," he said. "Everywhere, Michigan, Florida and the [world]."

Rowser finished his junior season with 61 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions, 1 sack and 10 pass break-ups making The Detroit News' Dream Team and helping his team to the state semi-finals in the process. He was a starter at Belleville his freshman and sophomore years, briefly transferred down to IMG Academy and then came back to the Tigers for that junior season.

He is a four-star prospect per both the 247Sports Composite and 247Sports. The Composite ranks him the No. 131 overall recruit in the country, No. 9 safety in his class and No. 3 junior in the state of Michigan.

Arkansas nabs first top-100 commit of Pittman era, Michigan DB Myles Rowser

quote:

Just a few hours removed from advancing to the Elite 8 in men's hoops, the Razorbacks got another big win on Sunday morning in the form of a commitment from 4-star safety Myles Rowser. The Michigan native chose to call the Hogs over the other programs in his top 4–Kentucky, Michigan State and Alabama.

Rowser, at No. 86 in the Rivals100 rankings, is now Sam Pittman's highest ranked commit since he came to the Hill. There are still several rankings cycles to go before they're official but Rowser is the highest ranked Hog commit since McTelvin Agim in the 2016 class.

At 6-foot, 185-pounds the Belleville, Michigan native can play every position in the secondary. Listed at safety where he's playing the majority of his high school snaps, Rowser has been recruited by corners coach Sam Carter–although it was an all hands on deck effort.

“It was really the relationship," Rowser said. "Coach (Sam) Carter is one of the best DB coaches, I feel like. We communicate every week and I talk to coach (Sam) Pittman, almost every week too. I’m feeling like they want me there. It is an amazing, big campus. I never seen Arkansas before, so (the virtual visits) were my first time seeing it and it was an amazing sight."

Racking up 26 DI offers since his freshman year, including five from the SEC, Rowser was at one point committed to the homestate Wolverines but backed off the pledge in June of 2020 to continue exploring his options.

Despite not making a new top eight that the 4-star posted in late January that included Penn State, Notre Dame and others, Arkansas made a huge impression over virtual visits and secured his pledge without an in-person visit. Rowser has already locked in his official visit to Fayetteville for June 4-6.

With Hog safety Jalen Catalon looking like a potential early departure for the NFL Draft after the 2021 season, Rowser could come in to help bolster the group immediately.

Rowser makes eight commitments for Sam Pittman's 2022 class and the second 4-star. He joins Rivals250 running back Rashod Dubinion (GA), 3-star offensive linemen Andrew Chamblee (AR) and Eli Henderson (SC), 3-star tight end Dax Courtney (AR), 3-star linebacker Kaden Henley (AR), 3-star running back James Jointer (AR) and 3-star defensive lineman JJ Hollingsworth (AR). If Rowser makes it to signing day, he'll be the first Michigan prospect to join the Hogs in the Rivals era.

As a top-100 recruit, Rowser adds 155 points to the Hogs' team recruiting total–pushing the class up from No. 22 in the nation to No. 15, tied with Alabama and Boston College early.

Arkansas has never had eight commits with nine months still to go until early signing.

Clarendon (Ark.) wide receiver Quincey McAdoo has committed to Arkansas. The 6-3, 180-pounder went public with his decision Friday evening at just after 6 p.m., becoming the Razorbacks’ ninth commitment for the Class of 2022.

McAdoo originally committed to Florida State on January 10, just days after former Arkansas wide receivers coach Justin Stepp accepted the same job at South Carolina. He de-committed from the Seminoles last week, which led to a wave of momentum and Crystal Ball predictions favoring the home state Hogs.

In addition to the Razorbacks and Noles, McAdoo holds offers from Auburn, Baylor, Miami, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and many others.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings, McAdoo is a highly-rated three-star prospect, the No. 52 wide receiver in the nation, and the No. 4 overall prospect in the state of Arkansas. 247Sports gives him a similar ranking, as the No. 65 wide receiver in the land, and the No. 5 player in the Natural State.

As a junior in 2020, McAdoo played running back, wide receiver, and defensive back for a Clarendon team that finished 7-3 with a second-round playoff appearance.

With the addition of McAdoo, Arkansas’ 2022 recruiting class moves to No. 11 in the nation and passes Alabama and Mississippi State for the No. 4 spot in the SEC. McAdoo is the first pick-up for new wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton, who replaced Stepp this offseason.

The rest of the Razorbacks’ class includes Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview running back James Jointer, Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove running back Rashod Dubinion, DeWitt (Ark.) tight end Dax Courtney, Maumelle (Ark.) offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes offensive lineman Eli Henderson, Greenland (Ark.) defensive end JJ Hollingsworth, Springdale (Ark.) Shiloh Christian linebacker Kaden Henley, and Detroit (Mich.) Bellville safety Myles Rowser.

McAdoo gives the Hogs six commitments from their 11 instate offered prospects for the Class of 2022. Two players from Fayetteville High, wide receiver Isaiah Sategna and linebacker Kaiden Turner, have already made commitments to out-of-state schools in Texas A&M and Indiana, respectively.

The rest of the group includes four-star offensive lineman E'Marion Harris of Joe T. Robinson, three-star defensive lineman Nico Davillier of Maumelle, and three-star wide receiver Chas Nimrod of Bentonville.

Clarendon wide receiver Quincey McAdoo has flipped his commitment from Florida State to the Arkansas Razorbacks in the span of five days.

McAdoo initially committed to the Seminoles on January 10th but the Hogs stayed consistent in their recruitment efforts. The coaches' and the commits' hard work paid of when they got their first flip of the class on Friday.

Arkansas intends to take roughly three wide receivers in the 2022 class and the Clarendon standout gives them a very good starting point.

The 4-star is Kenny Guiton's first as a P5 position coach and he continues Arkansas's streak of landing heavily recruited wide receivers. McAdoo shined just a few weeks ago in Atlanta:

"He showcased the hands, speed and ability to make outstretched grabs away from his body while being guarded well by an elite defensive back."

Though he may eventually be reclassified as a wide receiver, McAdoo is currently the 16th-ranked "athlete" prospect in the nation, and he's ranked No. 3 in the Natural State with his 4.46 speed.

From his sophomore through junior season, McAdoo earned 12 Division-I offers including Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Ole Miss.

The 6-foot-3, 173-pound 4-star is commitment No. 9 for the Razorbacks, joining Rivals250 safety Myles Rowser (MI), Rivals250 running back Rashod Dubinion (GA), 3-star offensive linemen Andrew Chamblee (AR) and Eli Henderson (SC), 3-star tight end Dax Courtney (AR), 3-star linebacker Kaden Henley (AR), 3-star running back Jointer (AR) and 3-star defensive lineman JJ Hollingsworth (AR).

Former Missouri and defensive end Tre Williams has announced his transfer to Arkansas. Williams, 6-5, 260, had initially planned to transfer to Houston after entering the transfer portal in December.

Williams, played in 42 games for the Tigers, where he played for former head coach Barry Odom, who now serves as Arkansas' defensive coordinator. Williams recorded 85 tackles, 15 for a loss and 8.5 sacks during his time in Columbia.

Williams is Arkansas' second incoming transfer from Missouri, joining defensive tackle Markell Utsey. The Hogs have also added a defensive tackle in John Ridgeway of Illinois State.

Here's more information from Missouri's official site:

Saw the field extensively in his redshirt freshman season, playing in 11 games total, and he ranked 16th on the team with 20 total tackles ... While that number might not be eye-popping, consider that he had 4.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 quarterback sacks among those 20 stops, and his ability to impact a game was pretty evident ... Also ranked second on the team - despite his limited snaps -- with five quarterback pressures on the season ... Came on strong late in the year, as half of his tackles were produced in the final four games of the season, including three stops versus Tennessee (11/11) that included a pair of sacks and a forced fumble ... Followed with a tackle and a pressure at Vanderbilt (11/18), and made two tackles in MU’s exciting comeback win at Arkansas (11/24) ... Closed the season with a strong performance in the 2017 Texas Bowl, as he tied his season high with four tackles against Texas, along with a quarterback pressure ... Made his Mizzou debut against Missouri State (9/2) … Tallied his first tackle in Mizzou’s game against Auburn (9/23) ... Little Rock (Ark.) Joe T. Robinson four-star offensive lineman E'Marion Harris has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Harris went public with his decision during a ceremony at Robinson High at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday, becoming the Hogs’ tenth commitment for the Class of 2022.

Harris, 6-7, 370, chose the Razorbacks over three other finalists in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Florida. He also held offers from Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M and several others. Harris was originally offered by former Arkansas head coach Chad Morris, but current head Hog Sam Pittman made him a priority shortly after taking over in Fayetteville. Offensive line coach Brad Davis served as Harris’ lead recruiter.

“Basically I just feel like it’s the right fit for me,” Harris said. “They’ve treated me like one of their sons. It feels like home to me. Our relationship is pretty good. Me and Coach Davis talk a lot, too.”

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings have Harris as a four-star prospect, the No. 277 player in the nation regardless of position, No. 34 among offensive tackles, and No. 2 overall in the state of Arkansas. 247Sports has him as the No. 31 offensive tackle prospect nationally and the No. 3 player in the Natural State.

Harris is Arkansas’ seventh instate commitment for the Class of 2022, joining Little Rock Parkview running back James Jointer, Clarendon wide receiver Quincey McAdoo, Clarendon tight end Dax Courtney, Maumelle offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee, Greenland defensive end JJ Hollingsworth, and Shiloh Christian linebacker Kaden Henley.

The 2022 class marks Arkansas’ biggest instate haul since 2015 when then-head coach Bret Bielema landed nine from inside the state.

Now that Harris has made his move, he plans to help the Hogs recruit coveted defensive lineman Nico Davillier of Maumelle.

“I feel like we can get Nico,” Harris said. “I feel like he’s a great athlete, so that would be a good move.”

Harris' commitment moves Arkansas' 2022 class to No. 12 in the nation and No. 5 in the SEC. In addition to the instate pledges, the Razorbacks' class also includes running back Rashod Dubinion of Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove, offensive lineman Eli Henderson of Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes, and safety Myles Rowser of Detroit (Mich.) Belleville.

quote:

The top player in the Natural State is staying home. E'Marion "Big E" Harris knew back in December what he would do but he called the Hogs on Sunday in front of friends and family at Joe T. Robinson High School, committing to Arkansas over Georgia, Oklahoma and more than a dozen other DI offers.

"Really, just getting closer with the coaches up there and them making me feel like they were going to treat me well and treat me like one of their kids basically," Harris shared on what caused him to feel sure in his decision. "I always dreamed about going to Arkansas as a little kid. It feels great, I get to play for my home state."

The Razorbacks have recruited Harris over multiple staffs and years. The 6-foot-7, 338-pound rising senior got his first offer from Alabama in 2018. He was one of the first recruits Sam Pittman reoffered when he was hired at Arkansas and he's now the third offensive line commit for second-year coach Brad Davis.

"Davis is a big factor, he told me straight up that he'll treat me as one of his own, he's going to help me through the process up there and after college as well," Harris said.

The Little Rock native has NFL aspirations and Pittman wants to help him get there as a bookend on his offensive line, like he's done with many others before him.

"I like Sam Pittman a lot, he's a funny dude and there's always character in the room," Harris said.

quote:

Harris joins South Carolina center Eli Henderson and Maumelle offensive tackle Andrew Chamblee as well as seven other future Hogs.

"I like the commits. Some of us are really close," Harris said.

The in-state commit total, at seven for Arkansas now, is the most since Bret Bielema's 2017 class.

Harris is currently ranked No. 240 in the nation, first in Arkansas and 32nd amongst offensive tackles in his class. His commitment gives the Hogs another 110 points for their team recruiting total, moving the class from 16th to 13th in the country. The four 4-stars in the class–Harris, Quincey McAdoo, Myles Rowser and Rashod Dubinion–tops Arkansas's total in the last two classes.

Not only is Harris choosing to stay home, he's also choosing to follow in the footsteps of his father Elliott Harris who was on the Hogs' squad in the early 2000s.

Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood defensive back Jaylen Lewis has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. The 6-1, 178-pound cornerback went public with his decision via social media at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, becoming Arkansas’ 13th commitment for the Class of 2022.

Lewis chose the Hogs over a stellar group of offers that included the likes of Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, and many others.

Last month, the heavily-recruited cornerback made official visits at Michigan State (June 4), Memphis (June 11), Auburn (June 15), and Arkansas (June 18). He was recruited to Fayetteville by second-year defensive backs coach Sam Carter. With the addition of Lewis, Arkansas' 2022 recruiting class moves up five spots to No. 17 in the nation, and passes Kentucky for the No. 6 spot in the SEC.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Lewis is a three-star prospect, the No. 57 cornerback in the nation, and the No. 19 player in the state of Tennessee for the Class of 2022. 247Sports gives him a similar ranking as the No. 58 cornerback in the land and the No. 16 prospect in the Volunteer State.

Lewis is the fifth defensive commitment for Arkansas' 2022 class, joining four-star safety Myles Rowser, three-star defensive end JJ Hollingsworth of Greenland (Ark.), three-star defensive lineman Nico Davillier, and three-star linebacker Kaden Henley of Springdale (Ark.) Shiloh Christian.

The Hogs' 2022 haul also includes seven players on the offensive side of the ball in Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove running back Rashod Dubinion, Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview running back James Jointer, Clarendon (Ark.) wide receiver Quincey McAdoo and tight end Dax Courtney, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes offensive lineman Eli Henderson, Maumelle (Ark.) offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee, and Little Rock (Ark.) Joe T. Robinson offensive lineman E'Marion Harris.

The Razorbacks also have a scholarship commitment from long snapper Eli Stein of Cambridge (Wisc.).

Arkansas is still in the running for Lewis’ good friend and heavily-recruited athlete Anthony Brown of Milan (Tenn.). Brown, 6-1, 192, made an official visit in Fayetteville on June 4 and returned on his own dime a week later to hang out with Lewis, who was on his official visit.

Brown, who is also being recruited as a defensive back, is scheduled to announce his decision on July 29. In addition to the Hogs, who own all five of the Crystal Ball predictions made thus far, Brown’s offer list includes Alabama, Auburn, Miami, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Wisconsin and many more.

Arkansas could get more good news later today when linebacker Mani Powell of Canton (Ohio) McKinley announces his college decision. The 6-3, 225-pound linebacker is down to six finalists in Michigan, Syracuse, Indiana, West Virginia, Toledo, and the Razorbacks.

Powell made official visits at Arkansas, Indiana and Syracuse in June. So far, one Crystal Ball prediction has been made for Powell -- logged by this writer -- and it has him choosing the Hogs.

HawgSports will have much more to come on Lewis’ commitment and what it means for the roster going forward.

Canton (Ohio) McKinley linebacker Mani Powell has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Powell, 6-3, 225, went public with his choice during a talk show interview on Friday, becoming the Hogs’ 14th commitment in this year’s class and their second of the day, joining major defensive back target Jaylen Lewis of Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood.

Powell chose Arkansas over five other finalists in Michigan, Syracuse, Indiana, West Virginia, and Toledo. He also held offers from Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss and several other Group of Five programs.

The inside linebacker was offered by the Razorbacks on March 15 and was recruited to Fayetteville by first-year linebackers coach Michael Scherer, who now holds two verbal pledges for the 2022 cycle.

"He's trying to bring in family,” Powell said of Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman following his official visit. “I made sure I told him that I want to go to a place where it feels like family all the time.

“Coach Pittman and the players made sure they broke it down to me that everything is about family here. There's a big atmosphere with the family, so that meant a lot. They're trying to change the atmosphere at Arkansas. They're trying to bring in great guys and keep pushing with great guys."

According to the 247Sports, Powell is a three-star prospect, the No. 112 linebacker in the nation, and the No. 27 overall player in the state of Ohio for the Class of 2022. The Composite rankings have him as the nation's No. 88 linebacker and the No. 29 prospect in Ohio.

Powell's commitment boosts Arkansas' 2022 team ranking to No. 14 in the nation and No. 4 in the SEC.

Powell is the sixth defensive commitment for Arkansas' 2022 class, joining Lewis, four-star safety Myles Rowser, three-star defensive end JJ Hollingsworth of Greenland (Ark.), three-star defensive lineman Nico Davillier, and three-star linebacker Kaden Henley of Springdale (Ark.) Shiloh Christian.

Arkansas is still heavily involved for two other linebacker targets in Jaron Willis of Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County, and Jordan Crook of Duncanville (Texas). Willis remains committed to Georgia Tech, while Crook de-committed from Oklahoma State earlier this week.

Both Willis and Crook made official visits at Arkansas last month.

Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County tight end Tyrus Washington has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Washington, 6-4, 230, went public with his decision at approximately 2 p.m. central on Wednesday to become the Hogs’ 15th verbal commitment for the Class of 2022.

The Georgia native chose Arkansas over two other finalists in Central Florida and Cincinnati. His offer list also included Ole Miss, Nebraska, Kansas State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Tennessee and several others.

Washington, who made an official visit in Fayetteville on the weekend of June 4-6, was recruited to Arkansas by new tight ends coach Dowell Loggains and running backs coach Jimmy Smith, who helps recruit his home state of Georgia for the Hogs.

Loggains is the third tight ends coach to recruit Washington to Arkansas since the Hogs offered in January. Jon Cooper held the position when the Razorbacks offered and was replaced by Cody Kennedy in late January.

After the Hogs saw former offensive line coach Brad Davis take the same job at LSU, Kennedy slid over to coach the O-line while head coach Sam Pittman added Loggains to the staff.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings, Washington is a three-star recruit, the No. 28 tight end in the nation, and the No. 56 overall prospect in the state of Georgia for the Class of 2022. 247Sports gives him a similar ranking, as the No. 40 tight end in the land and the No. 61 player in the Peach State.

With the addition of Washington, Arkansas moves slightly ahead of Missouri and Baylor for the No. 16 recruiting class in the nation. The 2022 haul also has a current ranking of No. 6 in the SEC.

Arkansas is still heavily involved for one of Washington’s good friends and teammates in 2022 four-star linebacker Jaron Willis, who remains committed to Georgia Tech but made an official visit with Washington at Arkansas in early June.

In addition to Washington, the Hogs' 2022 class includes seven other players on the offensive side of the ball in Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove running back Rashod Dubinion, Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview running back James Jointer, Clarendon (Ark.) wide receiver Quincey McAdoo and tight end Dax Courtney, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes offensive lineman Eli Henderson, Maumelle (Ark.) offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee, and Little Rock (Ark.) Joe T. Robinson offensive lineman E'Marion Harris.

Arkansas' defensive class includes four-star safety Myles Rowser of Belleville (Mich.), three-star cornerback Jaylen Lewis of Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood, three-star defensive end JJ Hollingsworth of Greenland (Ark.), three-star defensive lineman Nico Davillier, three-star linebacker Kaden Henley of Springdale (Ark.) Shiloh Christian, and three-star linebacker Mani Powell of Canton (Ohio) McKinley.

The Razorbacks also have a scholarship commitment from long snapper Eli Stein of Cambridge (Wisc.).

The Arkansas Razorbacks have picked up a commitment from Memphis (Tenn.) Christian Brothers defensive tackle Patrick Kutas, who was one of Arkansas' biggest remaining needs in the Class of 2022.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings, Kutas is a three-star prospect, the No. 90 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 21 overall prospect in the state of Tennessee for the Class of 2022. 247Sports gives him a similar listing, as the No. 115 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 23 player in Tennessee.

Kutas, 6-5, 285, released a top four that included Arkansas, Florida State, Oregon and Illinois on July 4. He also holds offers from Tennessee, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and many others. Arkansas offered the two-way standout in February and has made him a priority target ever since. He took his official visit to Arkansas in mid-June.

"The fans are one thing. They are diehard and crazy," Kutas said after his visit. "I like that. The atmosphere is great around here and obviously. I love the coaches around here. They are line guys so that helps me a lot.

"(Coach Sam Pittman) is really trying to change the program. Everybody I have talked to says his focus is straight. He's working hard to try to turn this place around and really make it a top program.

Kutas was hosted at fellow Memphis native Marcus Henderson, is being recruited to play for first-year defensive line coach Jermial Ashley.

"Coach Ashley is great," Kutas said. "Obviously he's pretty big. His enthusiasm. He's a great defensive line coach. He won at Tulsa. He did great at there. It's exciting to know his history is great."

Kutas also took official visits to Oregon (June 18) and Illinois (June 4). He is the 16th commitment in Arkansas' class, which ranks 18th nationally and seventh in the SEC. He is the 10th highest-rated recruit on Arkansas' commit list and is one of three defensive linemen. The Hogs also have DL commitments from tackle Nico Davillier, 6-4, 275, and end JJ Hollingsworth, 6-4, 250.

On his commitment graphic, he is listed an "OL-DL," so it is possible he could end up on the other side of the football, as well. There are currently three offensive linemen committed to the Razorbacks in E'Marion Harris, 6-7, 370, Andrew Chamblee, 6-6, 285, and Eli Henderson, 6-4, 290.

Kutas is one of two commitments out of Tennessee. Earlier this month, the Razorbacks added the pledge of Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood cornerback Jaylen Lewis, 6-0, 175. The Hogs have commitments seven different states, including Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, but at this time there are no commitments out of the state of Texas.

The Razorbacks are expected to hold a big event the last week of July before turning more attention to the start of fall camp on Aug. 6.

Patrick's commitment seems to have caught our recruiting writers by surprise because they didn't have quotes on his commitment and articles drafted.

Duncanville (Texas) linebacker Jordan Crook has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. The 6-0, 225-pounder went public with his decision during the Hogs’ recruiting cookout on Saturday afternoon, becoming the program’s 17th verbal pledge for the Class of 2022.

Crook, a three-star prospect according the 247Sports Composite rankings, originally committed to Oklahoma State but backed off that pledge following his official visit in Fayetteville in June. In addition to the Razorbacks and Cowboys, he held other scholarship offers from Baylor, Michigan, Nebraska, Missouri, USC, Washington, Texas Tech and many others.

Crook took official visits at Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech last month.

The stocky linebacker was recruited to Arkansas by first-year linebackers coach Michael Scherer. Crook is the Razorbacks' first addition from the state of Texas for the Class of 2022.

According to the Composite rankings, Crook is the No. 57 linebacker in the nation and the No. 82 overall prospect in the state of Texas. 247Sports lists him slightly higher, as the No. 49 linebacker in the country and the No. 54 player in the Lone Star State.

As a junior last fall, Crook helped Duncanville reach the state semi-finals with 93 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 6 sacks and 3 interceptions, 2 of which were returned for touchdowns. Crook played for Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne as a sophomore, and Mansfield (Texas) Lake Ridge as a freshman.

With the addition of Crook, the Razorbacks’ 2022 class goes from No. 21 to No. 17 in the nation. The Hogs also pass Missouri to claim the No. 6 spot in the SEC.

In addition to Crook, Arkansas' defensive class includes four-star safety Myles Rowser of Belleville (Mich.), three-star cornerback Jaylen Lewis of Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood, three-star defensive end JJ Hollingsworth of Greenland (Ark.), three-star defensive lineman Nico Davillier, three-star linebacker Kaden Henley of Springdale (Ark.) Shiloh Christian, and three-star linebacker Mani Powell of Canton (Ohio) McKinley.

The Hogs' 2022 class includes eight other players on the offensive side of the ball in Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove running back Rashod Dubinion, Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview running back James Jointer, Clarendon (Ark.) wide receiver Quincey McAdoo and tight end Dax Courtney, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes offensive lineman Eli Henderson, Maumelle (Ark.) offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee, Memphis (Tenn.) Christian Brothers offensive lineman Patrick Kutas, and Little Rock (Ark.) Joe T. Robinson offensive lineman E'Marion Harris.

The Razorbacks also have a scholarship commitment from long snapper Eli Stein of Cambridge (Wisc.) and are expected to sign a punter to scholarship in this year's cycle.

TE Dax Courtney tears ACL in left knee and is out for the season.

He tore his MCL in half in his right knee in week 3 of last season per RD.

It's becoming a reoccurring theme with our TE's - Outley still hasn't practiced after his knee injury last year.

S Anthony Brown commits.

Milan (Tenn.) three-star athlete Anthony Brown has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Brown, 6-0, 185, went public with his decision at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday to become the Hogs’ 18th verbal commitment for the Class of 2022.

Brown chose Arkansas over other finalists in Indiana, Illinois and Tennessee. He held other offers from Alabama, Auburn, Miami, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and many others.

Brown, who is being recruited to play the safety position currently manned by All-American Jalen Catalon, moves the Razorbacks’ class to No. 21 in the nation and No. 7 in the SEC.

The Detroit (Mich.) native who moved to Tennessee in 2017 has owned an offer from Arkansas since January 3, 2021. He made an official visit in Fayetteville on the weekend of June 4, then returned one week later as an unofficial visitor when his good friend Jaylen Lewis, a fellow Arkansas defensive back commitment from Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood, was enjoying his official visit on the Hill.

Brown was back on campus again last Saturday when the Razorbacks rolled then-No. 15 Texas, 40-21. He had initially planned to announce his commitment on July 29 but instead chose to wait until his mother’s birthday on September 14.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Brown is the No. 39 safety in the nation and the No. 17 overall prospect in the state of Tennessee for the Class of 2022. He is rated higher according to 247Sports, which has him pegged as the No. 33 safety in the land and the No. 12 player in Tennessee.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks offered a detailed breakdown of Brown as a player:

“Owns the requisite height and frame to project as a good-sized safety at the next level," Brooks wrote. "Lean, athletic build with room to add more mass. Varied on-field experience with three-phase playmaking ability. Could get on the field early as a special teams demon, which he's shown on his high school's coverage units. Snaps at running back, receiver, wildcat QB, and safety. Plus athlete on the field who flashes impressive closing speed in pursuit. That speed also manifests at the top end on offense.

“Field speed looks faster than verified combine data. Flashes encouraging pass-catching instincts when the ball is in the air and in contested situations. Strong offensive production as a junior (1,500-plus total offense, 25 TD). Above average length that should help in catch-point disruption on defense. Plays hard and acts as a tone setter at safety. Flies downhill in run support. Big hitter with impact arriving power. Occasionally sacrifices technique in those situations. Sometimes gears down when redirecting. Great pursuit range but can more consistently take the best angle. Can enhance fluidity to maximize man coverage potential. High-floor safety prospect with tools and play style that translate to various personnel packages as a walk-down box safety or a more traditional safety role. Projects to the high-major level. Long-term ceiling could be beyond college.”

With 18 commitments now in the boat, we believe the Razorbacks now have one spot left to fill for the Class of 2022 and any additional spots will be used for transfers.
