I always appreciate that, but I truly love the Army and soldiering. It has plenty of sacrifice, but it is an all volunteer force.

My oldest daughter always laughs at me because sometimes it feels awkward when people thank me for my service, especially because I truly love the Army like a second family.

One time several years back, I got kind of tripped up when this sweet little grandmother type took my hand and thanked me, so sincerely. I didn't really know what to say and blurted out, "well thank you for paying taxes"

My daughter laughed so much, that it remains our running joke today.
