I'm very much a proponent of using end of year rankings when comparing wins. There is something to beating someone in season with a high ranking, but that may not mean much: See "Top 10 Texas" who finished 8-5 and #25 only by the skin of their teeth.
2019-20 LSU certain stamped themselves into the conversation, but definitely need to tap the brakes on some of these GOAT declarations
