Nope. LSU had already beat Bama on their home field. They had already proven they were better.
In CFB rematches don’t make sense at all.

Bama had already had their chance to beat LSU. They did not deserve another chance.

Same thing happened to LSU in 1959. They beat OM. Rematch in the Sugar Bowl. Little surprise that the score was 21-0. No surprise.

It was no brainer that Bama was going to win that game. Should have never been played.

Rematches happen all the time in CFB. Conference championship games have often incorporated two teams who played each other in the regular season. No one has said that those games should be skipped because the two teams already played earlier in the season.

If that is your opinion, then it appears that you really think LSU shouldn't have been in the game.

The purpose of the BCS was to put the best two teams against each other. There were no caveats, no bonus criteria. LSU and Alabama met the set standards for being in the game.

If you dislike it, take it up with the athletic directors who agreed to the system. Like LSU's.
