1941 is the only bad claim IMO. However, #20 in the AP is even worse. The AP poll was extremely biased back in the early years, but it is what it is. Still wouldn't claim 1941.

I think there is a simple formula for legitmate claims.

Pre-1936. Rose Bowl wins/Math formula wins are legit. These are all claimed retroactive because National championships didn't really exist.

1936-1998. Poll Era. Only the major polls are legit. Math polls, like Alabama's 1941 claim are not legit. AP/UPI/Coaches polls are the only ones that count, even split claims. Alabama does not have a legit claim on 1966, even if it's bullshite.

1998-2013. BCS Era. Only BCS titles count. Polls are no longer valid, and that includes USC's 2 AP claims in 2003/2004.

2014-present. Playoff Era. Only playoff championships count.

UCF's national championship claim recently might be the worst claim in college football history. That type of claim hasn't been legit since 1936. And btw, the BCS computers were never a selector, so maybe even worse.

As for Alabama's overall number. To be honest, I lost count. I think it's 16.
