Issue is players who sign with Bama/LSU/tOSU/Clemson/OU/UGA and get buried on the depth chart are leaving for whichever of those schools listed above have depth issues, if they’re good enough. Which most of them are. If they don’t go to one of those they go to UF, aTm, Michigan or FSU. Basically the major programs are just swapping players. Then, on top of that, the big schools are poaching the more talented players from the also-rans.

This has always been one of the major negative points about the portal. Essentially it’s just a way for the rich to get richer.
