How do you even begin to fill that, considering natural attrition? Even if the limits were raised from 85 to 100+, you'd need a limit at closer to 35.

25*4=100 ... and that's assuming nobody leaves early.

I've never seen an age of football where high school recruits are more committed to just a few elite programs. Recruits in the upper 4 and 5* label can't wait to get to the hottest brand on the market, today. It doesn't seem to matter much who they rooted for growing up and what state they were raised. It's a "business decision," we hear over and over. The reason college football has gotten so top-heavy, now, more than ever, is that elite recruits go to all of the same elite camps, talk each other into the same few programs and soon most 5 stars are in just a few places.

Given that phenomenon alone, Alabama has been the greatest benefactor of this new age football. 25/85 only accentuates the penthouse from the outhouse. Until coach Saban leaves, I'm good with the haves and have-nots.

Make where you can sign a max of 25 per signing period and no cap. The natural roster attrition will keep the actual number of scholarships down around 85 to 95 .

No one would need to get cut and with current transfer rules they can leave already fairly easily if they want playing time sooner elsewhere. Ut would be really simple and fair.
