New Orleans Metro makes up over a quarter of Louisiana's population.
Not to mention that Tulane, while not as successful in athletics, is just as big a school as LSU. Surely they pull some of the potential college fans away.
Another thing to keep in mind is that people who didn't grow up in Louisiana or go to school at LSU are unlikely to adopt them as their team. NFL teams get picked up when people move to those areas.
