Unless you think 7 and 8 win seasons (with a ceiling of ten wins) is the best Auburn can do, I'm not sure how anyone could claim Makzahn has been a "good" coach at Auburn. His only 2 bowl victories as a head coach, ever, have been the Birmingham and the Music City bowls.
