Most years I'd like the opportunity to beat a good team, but I am of the opinion that we simply need the win and the ability to say we have gone 10-4, 8-5 and 10-3 on the recruiting trail. I don't care how easy the game is or how it is perceived...we need to win.

I want a winnable matchup we'd get the most credit for.

I don't want to play Memphis, not because they're not a good team, but because there is little upside to beating them and major downside to not beating them.

I'm fine with a game like Purdue last season if that's what's ahead, but given the choice between a Michigan/Minnesota, which I put at about the same level, I'm taking Michigan.

Reactions:

Auburn beats Michigan - "SEC over Big 10 yet again, Auburn finished strong considering that schedule"

Auburn beats Minnesota - "well, yeah."

I see the point, but in the end a win is all the really matters. Nobody remembers who played who after 20 days of endless bowl games. The 10 wins really is a weird demarcation, but it is a real perspective change for people. Coaches could sell it on the trail...as mentioned finishing ahead of bama would also be a big deal.
