Next Year's Offense

How is this not a complete shite show?
We don't have an experienced QB. Robinson was mediocre at best at TCU. Bazelak is just a pup who played in a Wishbone offense. Powell is obviously not the answer.
At WR we have Kam "skin and bones" Scott who can't catch. Knox who can't get open. Some random dudes who walk on at most schools, and Freshmen who haven't played a down.
At TE we have a converted defensive lineman and a bunch of dudes who can't beat out said defensive lineman.
At OL we have Borom and Cook, who are starting right now over White and Lawrence, because apparently those dudes suck so bad they can't see the field.
So what the frick are we looking forward to next year with this coaching staff?

Seems like you’re making an argument that it doesn’t matter who the staff is because all our players suck
At QB both Robinson and Bazelak were highly rated recruits. It IS possible that one of them could be good you know? This will be, of course, the biggest factor in whether things improve or not.
At RB, you still have Rountree and Badie who are quality backs. Their effectiveness will be largely dependent on...
The OL. No idea what to say here. This should have been a really good unit. It hasn’t been.
The WR. Disastrous unit. This is what has to improve the most IMO. Scott needs to grow up. He’s blazing fast but sucks because he can’t play with any composure. Knox has completely disappeared. They need Boone, Massey and Thompson to become factors. These are guys with some size. Hester could easily push for time here.
TE. Parker is a good player. Tough blocker. Catches everything. He should be used more. Hea is a guy they really seem to like, and can fill the athletic TE spot.
Basically, guys have to play better and one of our 4* QBs has to pan out.

Making the argument Odom can't recruit offensive players to save his life.
Ford has done well at RB, that's it. Everything else looks like a barren wasteland.

I've been surprised at how well Odom has recruited, especially given how his teams perform. Robinson, Bryant, and Bazelak are all 4 star QB's. He has the players, but he can't put together and keep a staff.

That’s not accurate.
Again, the offensive line should have been really good. Castillo, Durant and Simms were all very good last year and were getting a lot of NFL attention before the season. Again, not sure what happened here. They should be a lot better.
We haven’t got a chance to see some of the younger WR. Particularly Massey, Boone or Thompson. Those are talented guys. He has Hester coming in who has offers from everybody.
Parker is good. Hea has the potential to be good.
There are some good pieces. I know how it looks now, but this was a solid offense before it wasn’t. It’s hard to reasonably come to the conclusion that they all just started sucking for no reason, all at the same time. If the returning guys can get back to that level of play, and we have a few of the young guys step up this could be a solid unit next year. Of course, it could also suck again if whatever went wrong isn’t fixed.

If Robinson or Bazelak are good then the offense will be fine. If not then there’s not enough talent or coaches that can scheme around average to poor QB play.

You really think the offense’s sole problem is Bryant?
Posted on 11/17/19 at 11:16 pm to the808bass
I don’t think talent is the problem. Bryant is a bad fit and the pieces around him don’t fit the play calling.

I don't really see what Bryant has to do with the lack of a running game.

I don't but I do think he's way overrated and I don't think he can see shite 20 yards downfield.

Two words: player development
Pinkel had it. Odom does not.

Defensive players are developing just fine. Especially up the middle from DT, LB and S positions.

So the only place where we have development are positions Odom coached, lol.
Makes sense, his assistants are garbage, nothing really groundbreaking there.

Nothing about Odom. But those are the positions that have shown big improvement since last season.

quote:Bryant started off poorly, then had a couple of good games, then quit throwing the ball at the same time the Oline quit blocking. most of the offense quit after the Mississippi game. They had the players to make this a very interesting season, instead, it turned into a very Odom season and we don't know why.

Then fix that part and start replacing coaches on the offense. OC and receiver coach and who else? OL coach?
