As long as they are legit contenders every 3-4 years and the other years are 10-2 types I'd think they'd be ok with that?
Still not entirely convinced they compete every 3-4 years though.

Sounds like what LSU fans accepted under Les Miles.
And I was ok with that also for awhile.
But
I think if you’re not in the hunt every year, your program can easily revert back to average.
The goal should be a National Championship every year.
