Being competitive always beats being non-competitive. As far as coaching salaries go, that's for ADs and BOTs to worry about.

AD at one of these schools is smart enough to stay out of the way and walk around campus in his custom tailored suit and acting like he hit the lottery.
The AD at the other school spends all of his time eating Krispy Creme trying to find a way to can the coach and take his job.
