Not sure what difference that makes? Herbert is the best QB in the Pac 12 and that conference puts a lot of responsibility on the trigger puller.
McElwain had a couple of outstanding years in Florida. But he couldn't sustain the program over time. 9 and 4 in his first season, plenty we still don't know and plenty could still go wrong.
My other theory is that Manny Diaz is already struggling in Miami and had it not been for terrible timing Cristobal might be a Hurricane as we speak. Miami could once again be in the market for a HC before Alabama. If he's all that in a few years than the sneaker king will most likely make him an offer he can't refuse in Eugene.
It means Oregon isn't a high flying team that is benefiting disproportionately from a good QB. Rather, Oregon is a grind it out, physical team on both sides of the ball. Oregon looks like a team where the head coach was an offensive lineman which Cristobal was.
McElwain? Outstanding? Brother what's outstanding to you? 10-4, 9-4, and 3-4 aren't outstanding seasons but those were McElwain's records at Florida.
Miami won't pay the money for Cristobal. It ain't happening. Miami put out feelers for Cristobal but they don't have the money to bring him back. Cristobal will only take a high profile job with big money to leave Oregon.

Which is why I quoted Cristabol's record last season, 9-4.
I wouldn't know why anyone would think that comparing either coach is apples to oranges. You don't want to go back to Cristabol's other HC gig in Florida, do you?

You, nor I, nor anyone else, know what the decision will be if Momma calls.
