Something has definitely changed with Gus. In his pre- and post-game interviews, he's made multiple references to things pundits have been complaining about in a way that leads you to believe that he has more self-awareness. I almost think he’s gotten a life coach. He’s lost weight. His last couple of press conferences were full of real analysis and not coach speak. He sounds authentic and looks dynamic and bright. He’s definitely more dialed-in on the sideline. Not just screaming and looking phrenetic, but being very pointed in his criticisms. In the past, he’s always looked like he’s having a pre-snap epileptic fit on the sidelines. Out of control. As a player on the field, I’m not sure you could get anything out of it. Now, he is still loud and animated, but he looks like he has really worked on his communication.

This is a good analysis. However, my fear is still that we assume he's turned a corner as an HC because we're 5-0, not because he's actually changed his approach.

But I'm a cockeyed pessimist when it comes to AU football. I'll keep believing right up until they rip my heart out again
