The 9-6 game in 2011 wasn’t originally scheduled for a night game. CBS worked a deal with ABC/ESPN to move some games around.
That boring defensive struggle blew out the ratings. When A&M and Mizzou joined the conference the following year, CBS added a single SEC night game as part of reworking the TV contract because of the new markets.
ABC doesn’t want Prime time competition from CBS multiple times a season, and CBS doesn’t want ABC airing SEC games.
So, CBS gets first choice, but only one night game. Disney gets to spread the rest of the games across it’s networks, except for ABC.
